Does Your Phone Manner Scare Prospects Away

The other day someone was kind enough to give me a lead for a company that she thought was looking for some marketing help. I followed up within a couple of days and very quickly experienced one marketing problem. The person who answered the phone sounded irritable; as if my call was an interruption of something important. Perhaps I had interrupted something but I could have been a prospect and if that had been the case, they would have lost the sale.

More companies make that mistake than they know. People just don’t realize they may give a poor perception. Its like having bad breath — you are often the last one to know. So every now and then have someone do a “mystery” call. Ask them to call your company and play customer to see what sort of welcome they get. You might be surprised.
