If you have WordPress as your blog and you install it yourself, there is a fabulous new plug-in which automates upgrading to a new release. Previously I was doing the upgrade manually but it was usually a royal pain. I didn’t go through the upgrade process frequently enough to remember what I had done the time before so it always took me ages.
Now thanks to Keith Dsouza there is a plug-in which automates the whole thing. It backs up the site, turns off the plug-ins, sets a “site maintenance”, message, downloads the new version, installs it, and re-starts the plug-ins. It is such a beautiful thing. I was so thrilled I even made a cash donation. Now that is praise indeed..
If you want to get it for your WordPress blog you can do so here:
WordPress WordPress Automatic upgrade « WordPress Plugins.
By the way, if your blog is at wordpress.com or provided for you by your ISP you may not need to worry about upgrades. It is only useful if you install WordPress yourself.
Thank you for this little bit of info. As a new blogger every little bit helps! I have been reading your blog for some time now and find it both enlightening and informative. Keep up the good work.
hi Jim,
You are very welcome. If you host your own blog as I do, this plug-in saves so much time.
I see you are located in Longview, what is it you do?
