I am adding Phil Bernstein’s advertising blog to the Blogroll (links). He has some very interesting comments on advertising that could be of benefit to small business owners.
A couple of days ago he posted an excellent link to a blog that dissects radio ads (each Monday). You can read what they have to say about [...]

I came across an interesting piece of information today. Apparently for certain non-profits Google will give free advertising in the form of Google Adwords. The criteria is that the organization has to be a 501(c)(3) and cannot be religious or political in nature.
This could be a great way for non-profits to get the word out [...]

I just posted my latest podcast which is an interview with Tom Hale from Thomas Creek Concepts in Portland Oregon. Tom is an AdWords expert and consultant. I recently read Tim Ferriss’s “The Four Hour Workweek” and listened to an interview between John Jantsch and Tim yesterday. The whole book is very thought provoking but there was one section in particular that caught my attention and that was with respect to Mirco Testing.
Often when we are writing an ad we want to [...]

I have now begun to create a small business podcast library. It was too much to put on here so I have a separate site where you can listen or download the podcasts of interest. The first one in the series is about small business advertising and it is an interview with Liz Walker who [...]

Whose Truth in Advertising?

I noticed in the Columbian (our local newspaper) yesterday that one of the wireless phone companies was advertising “50% off all phones”. I thought, that is a pretty good deal but then I noticed the small print. “Offer available on select phones”. Hmm, what is wrong with this picture? Is it “All phones” or “select [...]

Great Advertising Site

I came across a great advertising site called Adverbox which showcases interesting ads from across the world. Most of these ads are from larger companies. Many of them are brand ads (i.e. cost millions, take ages to build awareness and don’t drive immediate sales) so they would not necessarily be suitable for small businesses. Nonetheless, [...]

Have you noticed how the same old, tired, worn out phrases so often show up in small business advertising? If you don’t believe me take a look in your local paper or in the yellow-pages. I’m not quite sure why companies create ads with these phrases but I suppose it could be a play [...]
